Start with breakfast or brunch on the square at Sweet Melissa’s. Or try out Thumbs Up or Pastries A Go Go between the western and eastern ends of Ponce de Leon Avenue. Follow with a casual stroll around the downtown shopping district browsing shops for clothing, home decor items and gifts.

Midday, get lunch “to go” and head for the tree-shaded grounds around the Community Bandstand on the square. If it’s a Wednesday in May or September, enjoy a free Blue Sky concert. Or, hop on the pedicab for a quick, scenic trip to Oakhurst where you can choose from pizza at MoJo, pub fare at Universal Joint and Steinbeck’s, and a handful of other great little places.

Take your time heading back to downtown Decatur on foot, stopping by the Oakhurst Community Garden to see chickens and bee hives, and get organic gardening tips from the friendly staff. The Dalton Gallery at Agnes Scott is next along the way with student and faculty shows and notable curated exhibits.

If there is time in your busy day, catch the MARTA train at the Decatur station under the square and zip downtown to see the spectacular Georgia Aquarium and the World of Coca-Cola. Or, hop on the free Cliff shuttle to the Emory campus for the excellent Michael Carlos Museum.

At day’s end it’s time for a memorable dining experience at Leon’s, Parker's on Ponce, Cakes & Ale or Watershed, just a few of many excellent choices available to you. Stop in at the Brickstore for a world class selection of beers. Or sample the latest offering at Twain’s, a Decatur brewpub and billiards parlor. Treat yourself to sweets and coffee at The Bakery at Cakes & Ale, and then stroll over to Eddie’s Attic to enjoy the night’s featured performance. You may catch a rising star!
