Film Festival Family Day

Kids Video Connection Children's Film Festival is celebrating their 10th anniversary this summer, and are excited to have the opportunity to reach and teach children and teens throughout metro Atlanta.  Through this annual summer festival, they have reached over 5,000 youth. 

This year the festival is scheduled June 16 - 30, 2017.  The theme is “The Magic of Edutainment.”  They have new educational and creative workshops for children, teens and independent producers interested in creating educational and entertaining children’s programs.

On June 17, 2017, KVC will host the Film Festival Family Day at the Decatur Recreation Center. As in the past, we will have several eye-opening workshops for youth. For the first time, we will have a workshop for adults interested in producing children’s programs. Nicole Velez will conduct the workshop: How to Effectively Develop & Pitch an Entertaining & Educational Children’s Program 9:30 – 11:30 p.m.

In addition, on June 17th, we will showcase family films at the Decatur Public Library from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Also, we will conduct our popular Teen Vision Program at the library for free. Teens will have the opportunity to meet media professionals, and learn about careers in the film and television industries.

Learn to Develop & Pitch a Children’s Show

9:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Workshop participants will learn how to effectively develop and pitch an entertaining and educational children’s program. If you have a show…come prepared. You may be selected from the audience for a 3-minute pitch!  Presenter: Nicole Velez, Coordinating Producer of the PBS Emmy Award-winning show, Arthur.

Family Films

Decatur Public Library

A collection of Short Films produced by children and teens will be showcased. The winner of the child produced program will be announced.  Also, we will have the premier of the family film, Annabelle and the Ghost of Nantucket.

Intro to Animation

Decatur Recreational Center

10:00 – 12 noon

Ages 8 – 14

Limit 16 students


Workshop participants will learn the basic concepts of creating animation which includes timing, staging, anticipation, storytelling, and tweening.  Through experiential learning, each student will create a flip book which exemplifies the animation process.

Intro to Special Effects Make-up

Decatur Recreational Center

10:00 – 12:00 p.m.

Ages 8 – 13

Limit 18 students


Workshop participants will discover what happens behind the scene to create the faces of aliens and monsters in films. Students will learn how to use two simply house-hold items to create special effects make-up.

Intro to Acting

Workshop participants will be introduced to the world of acting and have fun learning acting techniques through improvisation.

Teen Vision Program

A collection of short films and video project produced by teens will be showcased. The winner of the Teen-produced film/video will be announced.  Also, we will have a special panel of media professionals that will share information about their careers with the teens.
